  • I need to leave home...

This is going to be a very long story and it goes back to a few months ago with a lot of events. First it starts out with one night back in the beginning of January. I'm a forgetful person and I forget to take my iron supplements due to my anemia...one night my dad got angry with me and said I looked like a vampire/dead person with my looks. They took away my phone that night. I was scared by the argument and threw up pretty badly...that's when my mom comes in and says "Oh so you're throwing up now?! You nervous that we'll find something on your phone?!" Well no I wasn't. I had nothing to hide. I cried that night and went to school the next day breaking down in front of my teacher what happened. My mom yells a lot and puts all the blame on me constantly. I understand she's sick but...she doesn't need to treat me horribly. I also told my boyfriend about the situation...it's long distance and I don't want my parents to know about us at all until I'm 18 and can be on my own. Anyways I talked to my school nurse and she actually called Child services reporting emotional neglect in my situation. Services called my dad which I found ridiculous for them to do two hours after the report was made and I got scolded that night. However nothing else was further done and my boyfriend got sick and tired of what was happening with me and told his adoptive mother. She is a paralegal and she decided to help me out and make a case bringing to court to get custody over me to help me leave home. Now I haven't been in a good mental state. I have thought about bad things and went a couple days without sleep at one point. I'm scared with so much stress piled on me. On the otherside I haven't been able to talk to my boyfriend in the past two months and I don't know what's going on. I really want to leave home and perhaps go find him and be somewhere safe. I just want someone to talk to and to give me some advice of what to do.

RE: I need to leave home...

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us here at the National Runaway Safeline. We’re really sorry to hear about all these things happening at home. It can be so frustrating when you don’t feel like your family is there for you and is treating you so harshly. It’s great that you have such a supportive boyfriend and that his family is so willing to be there for you too.

We’re also sorry to hear about these feelings you’ve been having. Stress, especially when piling up, can really affect your life. When you mentioned these “bad things” you’ve been thinking about, we don’t want to make any assumptions, but it sounds like you might be experiencing suicidal thoughts. If that is the case, we want you to know that your life is worth saving and you matter. If you ever feel bad and need someone to reach out to, you could try calling the National Suicide Prevention hotline at 1-800-273-TALK. Please know that help is there for you when you need it.

We really hope that things work out for you in the near future. Keep your head up, it sounds like you have some people fighting along with you. We want you to know that we’re also there for you if you’d like. We have a Live Chat right here on our website or you could call in here at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). We’re 24/7 and confidential.

    Best of luck,
    NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.

Re: I need to leave home...

Often, youth may reach out to NRS in several different ways to discuss their situation. If a response from NRS is not visible to a bulletin posting it may be that we have already provided services to that individual through another platform we provide such as email, our crisis hotline, or our live chat service (in operation every day from 4:30p to 11:30p CST). NRS encourages anyone in need of assistance to contact us through our 24 hour crisis hotline at 1-800-RUNAWAY to receive immediate support. Our chat will not allow users to type until an NRS volunteer joins the chat. Sometimes there is a wait with chat depending on our volume.
