I am considering running away with my boyfriend at 15

Hi, there! Thanks for writing us! Sorry to hear that things are getting stressful for you at home. It also must be a relief that you have your boyfriend to depend on. It is also understandable that you are more afraid due to rising fears of the coronavirus, and you feel like he is someone you would want to be with, if say, you had to be under isolation.

Although it is understandable that you want to leave temporarily to avoid your troubles at home, know that running away is a status offense. In most states, the age of majority is 18. This means that your parents/guardians are responsible for you until then. If you leave home, your parents and his can call the police and file a runaway report. Those who help runaways could be susceptible to fines or other charges.

Have you considered asking your parents to give you permission to get away for a while? Perhaps stay with another relative or family friend you trust? Or even ask them if they would feel comfortable if you stayed with your boyfriend and his family?

Hey,
I am 15 years old. My boyfriend is also 15 (he will be 16 in a month). I have been thinking about this for a while now. Things at home are getting too stressful for me and my parents just don’t understand. The only time I feel stress free is when I’m with my boyfriend. The whole corona virus situation is getting kinda scary and if there was anybody I would want to be with, it would be my boyfriend. I just need time away from home. He feels the same. I just need someone else’s input on what I should do. I wouldn’t be running away forever, I would just be gone for a couple weeks or so...i need input ASAP.
