I am 17 years old, my mother told me to get my stuff and get out, but then threatened to call the cops if I actually left. I have text message proof of her kicking me out. Can the cops force me home in this case?

    Hey there,
Thank you so much for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline. We are here to support and listen to you. It sounds like you have been put into a difficult situation by your mother. You don’t deserve to be kicked out of your house.
We are not legal experts, but if your mother kicked you out of the house that would be considered neglect and your mother would be breaking the law. If you were to make a report with your local police or file a report with Child Help by calling 1-800-422-4453 or by visiting https://www.childhelp.org/. If the police were to find you, there main priority would be to take you home, unless you told them about your mother kicking you out. It is not illegal to run away, so you would not be in any legal trouble.
You do not deserve to be kicked out of your home. We are a 24/7 hotline so feel free to call us at 1-800-786-2929 (1-800-RUNAWAY) or chat with us at https://www.1800runaway.org/. We are here to support and listen to you and help in any way we can. Best of luck.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
