  • I have some questions let me explain my story

Hello umm I plan to run away with my boyfriend of long distance for 6 months we’re 4-6 years apart ( technically ) and I have planed this through but I still have questions.1 will I be broadcasted like the kids who are missing on the news I only plan on running away for a week with him or 7 days the going to the airport and ruturning home? He’s over the age of 18 and I’m younger then 18 and the legal age of consent would he still be charged if we did anything sexual but I still consented to it? If someone found that I was missing do they still have to wait 24 hours to report it? What if I worth a letter saying I ran away would it still be the same? Some of my friend know a few things but not all if the police went to then and got information would they interrogate me when I came back? I plan to leave on my break would that affect me education I’m applying to the top schools right now would they decline me because I ran away? These are most of the questions I have today thank you

Thank you for reaching out to National Runaway Safeline, it takes a lot of courage to seek help. We can’t say for sure what would happen if you decided to leave home and stay with your boyfriend but we can provide you with general information. If someone found out that you were missing, they could report it immediately. Running away is not illegal, it is a status offense so it will not be on your record and it should not affect your education. Since you are a minor, there is a chance that your parents will file a runaway report on you. With a runaway report, if the police find you they would return you home. We are not legal experts but from what we know, your boyfriend could get in trouble for harboring a runaway and engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor. We encourage you to be very careful and to make sure that you have a plan that is well thought out to ensure your safety. Please contact us directly to continue to discuss your options. Our crisis hotline is 24 hours (1-800-786-2929) and we can also be contacted via email or live chat.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
