  • Online dating and lies

I've been dating this wonderful guy over the internet for five months and we are meeting in person for the first time in another three months. (I am being safe about it. We are meeting at the library which is a registered safe place with a friend and lots of people will know where I am) Thing is, my parents don't know. They don't approve of meeting online so we have come up with a lie. I willing to go through with it so I can have my relationship un hidden.
The lie is: Me and my friend met a boy and he liked me so he gave me his number. Months later he will admit to a crush then ask me out
    What do you guys think?

    Hello,
Thanks for posting! It sounds like you are in a confusing situation but that you are considering things that could go wrong and being safe about it. That is very smart of you! We are non-directive which means we cannot tell you what to do. You know your situation and your parents the best, you are the expert in this department and can make your own decision.
It is a little difficult for us to offer any more options without knowing your age. If you are a minor (under 18 in most states) and you leave home to live elsewhere, your parents could report you as a runaway. However, we aren’t sure if you are thinking of doing that or just meeting with this guy and introducing him to your parents as a boyfriend but continue living at home.
If you wanted help in talking to your parents, we do offer conference calling. Sometimes having a third party on the line as an advocate and mediator can be helpful with tough conversations. Give us a call if you would like to pursue that or talk about this more!
We are here 24/7 by phone at 1-800-786-2929 and in the evenings on our website live chat (click the chat button). Please reach out anytime if you would like to talk further about this! Best of luck!
