  • running away with girlfriend

Hi I'm 17 and my girlfriend is 16. We've always talked about running away together but recently we have made the decision to actually do it. Both of our parents don't really like us being together because we are "trouble". We just want to get away from all the b.s. and be happy and free together. We want to travel, experience new places, meet some cool people, and just have an amazing adventure together. We both are very happy, nice people and we are basically known as a "hippy couple" haha. Don't really know where we will go or how will gget there. We don't plan on ever going back so I need advice on how not to get caught and what to do, ect. Any adivice on how to succefully run away will be helpful and much apreciated. Thankyou!

    Running away with girlfriend

    Hello,
Thanks for posting on the National Runaway Safeline Bulletin board.
It sounds like you and your girlfriend have become so frustrated with the issues your parents have about dating you have decided to runaway.
We can appreciate that the situation has you thinking about leaving but we hope that you will understand that NRS does not give advice or tips on how to runaway.
It is good that you and your girlfriend are thinking about surviving if you do indeed run away from home. Being on the street can be unpredictable and unsafe.

Have you considered any other options with trying to work out something with your parents?
Sometimes it can difficult to get your points across or to get someone to listen to your point of view. It is reasonable to see how you might feel disappointed about the lack of support for your relationship.

    NRS is here to listen.
You can contact NRS 1800-Runaway (786-2929) to talk about options in regards to your situation or go to www.1800Runaway.org and click the live chat option.
NRS live chat is available from 4:30pm until 11:30pm 7days a week.

Once again we thank you for contacting the National Runaway Safeline.
    Take Care

Thank you for reaching back out to us and telling us more about what’s going on. It sounds like you recently found out that your girlfriend is pregnant but you two have conflicting ideas about the pregnancy. Have you talked with her about wanting to keep the baby? That may be a good place to start and if you are concerned about how that would go, you can call us here. We can help you role play that conversation or discuss ways that you may be able to approach her.

Again, we are here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our online chat services from 4:30 PM-11:30 PM (CST). We look forward to hearing from you and wish you the best of luck!

        ~NRS

Sounds like big responsibility has suddenly been thrust upon you. Just remember, more than likely, your family cares about you and is surely worried. Despite arguments, your family can be a great asset in times like these. It may not seem like it now, but it will as time goes on.
