My friends go behind my back and call me a b**** and a lesbion and I'm not. They also told a teacher that I was cheating and made up a totally bull crap story about me. How can I stand up to them and make new friends? I live in a small school and everyone has a friend group.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you are really frustrated with how you are being treated by some friends at school. Was there a specific incident or time when they started treating you this way? It can be hard to have people talking about you behind your back and to know what to do about it. Have you talked to anyone else about the problem? Sometimes sharing how you are being treated with a trusted adult can help you to process what is going on and come up with a plan of action.

Standing up to others can be difficult to do and we are glad that you’re talking with us about what you are going through. Your feelings are important and it seems like you are looking for some encouragement. If you feel like they way that your friends treat you is more like bullying, you might want to visit for additional help. Otherwise, we are here 24/7 at 1-800-RUNWAY or from 4:30-11:30pm CST through live chat at to discuss more of your situation with you. Again, we are glad that you contacted us and hope to hear from you soon,

Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
