  • Stepson left state

We are in a load of uncertainty. Stepson 16 got into an argument with my husband in the middle of work. 16 screamed at my husband infront of all the supervisors and then refused to hand keys over to the truck (he owns but does not possess license) all husband asked for was an apology. Cops were called and husband got keys. 16 decided he was going to go to friends to cool off which was fine. Husband asked for apology again and nothing. Due to the mistrust as of last year (drug use, vaping, threatening younger siblings) he told him he wasn't welcome back home until he apologized and changed some actions. He assumed a few days would pass and he would come home. No, petty set in. 16 decided to leave state with truck and go to his brothers we assume (his egg donor lives up there too) issue is we can't get ahold of anyone. We have title to truck, insurance on currently and for 1st week life360. They were going to liquor store every day. So we have decided that it is in best interest to drop insurance and sign custody to his egg donor however no one is contacting us back. We don't even know her phone # and his brother is not answering us. We assume the house that he was at on life360 the 1st week is his brother's house. Should we just mail the title to truck to that address and let by gons be at rest. Forcing him back home is not going to help the situation and after cleaning out his room it is unsafe for him to be at our house and trusted around younger siblings

    Hi there,
Thank you for reaching out to NRS. It sounds like your family has been dealing with a lot recently. We are not legal experts and different states may have different rules about how to release custody to someone else, especially if the person in question cannot be reached. Your state’s social services would be the right place to go for advice on what to do. Our ability to help over the forums is limited so the best way for us to help you is by calling us at 1-800-RUNAWAY or by live chatting with us at 1800runaway.com if there's anything else that we can help you with. We’re here to talk 24/7 and we’re confidential. We wish you and your family the best.
