  • Coming back after running away

My son ran away last Friday. I know where he is ,,,saw him once and we are meeting tomorrow at 2. He is high functioning autistic. I don't know what happened I said he can not going out because he missed 2 classes the week before. Then he went off on his dad when they return home from school. Not sure if he was overwhelmed due to school and had a mental break.
anyway my questions how do I deal with meeting him tomorrow? The place that he staying is saying you need to get home. We did baby steps this process this week. His reponse we was I will talk to my mom. I am afraid that he will be angry and try another person to live with. Or he will not come home. He is vaping and smoking weed.
He need to be accountable for his actions.

    Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline and sharing your situation with us. It sounds like you care a lot about your son, and we will do our best to help both of you!

We are proud of you and your son for scheduling a time to meet. You mentioned that your son may be overwhelmed and may have had a mental break. You also mentioned that you have experienced many emotions, such as being mad and depressed. You are in a tough situation, and it is normal to have these feelings. Giving your son the opportunity to share his feelings with you in a non-judgmental and calm setting may be beneficial when you meet with him. You also mentioned that your son may be overwhelmed with school. Some schools have guidance counselors/social workers who are trained to work with autistic students and their families. They might be able to help you and your son navigate your relationship.

If you would like to talk to us more about your specific situation, please feel free to send us an instant message or call us. Our website is https://www.1800runaway.org/concerne...ncerned-adults and our phone number is 1-800-RUNAWAY. We are here 24/7 and we are here to help you!
