  • badly treated in household

I want to run away from this family because they always yell at me and hurt me many times at 5 years old I was kicked out of my house I've been getting beat up from age 3 to 13 and still am now they are invading all my privacy and taking me into their room and they have taken away all my devices and anything that brings me happiness including my playstation and my basketball I can't go outside at all and I have to get picked up and dropped off at school because someone else in my school got into a fight and I accidentally got hit. My little brother who is 8 years younger than me is treated no different he's only 5 years old and is getting beat up if I try to stop my parents I get beat too.

Hi there, we're glad you're reaching out for help-- it takes courage to do so. It sounds like you've been enduring physical and emotional abuse for several years now, and have lost access to a lot of freedom and things that make life more enjoyable. You do not deserve to be hurt by your parents. Based on your age, running away may be very difficult; your parents could file a runaway report and investigate your whereabouts with law enforcement. You have some options that might help change your home environment, or help you cope. You can call us (1-800-RUNAWAY) or chat us (1800runaway.org and click CHAT at the top) and we can help you file an abuse report (a report to child protective services about what's been going on at home) which might result in people checking in with you, your brother, and your parents' situation. You can also contact Childhelp (800-422-4453), another organization that is dedicated to helping stop abuse in the home.

If your school has a counselor, or if you have a teacher you trust, it might be helpful to talk with them, as well. Even if they don't 'fix' the situation at home, it can help relieve some of the stress by venting. You can also contact us if you just want someone to talk to about what's been going on; we are on your side.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
