My mother litterally hates me. She hits me, she tells me when i can and cant eat. I try to leave the house so i can get air but she keeps me in. I want to leave this house and never come back. I honestly could have done that. But her room is right by the door. She calls me mental and she wishes she never had me, instead of talking to me she yells at me. I love my mom to death , but i wish i could just leave and never talk to her again.

Hi there,
Thank you for reaching out about your situation. We know that it isn’t always easy to ask for help. Your mother’s behavior sounds like it’s been incredibly upsetting. We at National Runaway Safeline are more than happy to discuss your options with you. We’re here to support you through this challenging time.
Generally speaking, 18 is the age that a young person can legally leave their home without permission. This means that if you did leave home, your mother could file a runaway report with the police. Running away isn’t a crime, but if the police found you after that report was filed they’d have to return you to your mother. It might be helpful to consider how your mother might react after you leave. Whether she files a report or not can make a huge difference in how the case is treated. Any legal adult you stay with while filed as a runaway could be charged with harboring a runaway. State laws can vary on these matters. We can tell you a little bit more about what we know regarding your state if you reach out to us over chat or by phone.
You mentioned that your mother hits you and yells at you. We’re so sorry to hear this. You deserve to feel safe in your home. One option to consider would be filing an abuse report with Child Protective Services, who may then be able to help remove you from your home. Reaching out to Child Help USA at 1-800-422-4453 or www.childhelp.org may help to get a better understanding of what may happen before and after a report is made.
In the end, we cannot tell you what to do. You know your situation best. However, if you’d like to talk through your options in greater detail, feel free to reach out. We can best assist you over phone at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat at www.1800runaway.org. We’re here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You do not have to be alone in this.
Be safe,
NRSPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
