  • I'm depressed

A few years ago my mom died from cancer a month later my dad got custody of me while I had to leave my 4 year old brother and 6 year old sister (they now live with my step dad). I only visit them a few days a month. I ended up living with my grandma, dad, great grandma, and grandfather that lasted for about a year which I was depressed and alone for a while. About a year later my dad moved out and bought a house took all his stuff and left me with my grandma. (I hate her btw) awhile after she put me in homeschool which isolated me from all my friends. The only time I see people really is when I go to church (I have no friends there). The only friend I have now uses me to take pictures of her and her other friends to post on social media and talk to boys for her. A few months ago I got rejected by a boy I loved so he could be with one of my old friends. These past two years I have been completely alone and depressed about everything I miss my old life but there is no way I could get it back (I'm 13 btw).

    Hello,
Thank you for contacting the National Runaway Safeline.
It sounds like you have experienced some very difficult times.
You have our condolences on the loss of your mother.
Losing a parent is not only a traumatic life changing event it is something that only those who share this experience might understand. Emotionally it sounds like you have struggled with depression as you try to adjust to Living with your father and grandparents.
There is also the situation with not seeing your siblings on an everyday basis.
Your father has moved out leaving you with your grandparents.
This all must have been really hard for you.

Since the new living arrangement you sound like you feel isolated because you are home schooled and don’t have many social encounters with friends.

In two years you have faced some pretty tough challenges.
Taking care of yourself emotionally is important.
Your will to push through is amazing.
During your story you did not mention if there was any effort to help you cope with everything.
For instance was counseling ever a consideration?

We would like to hear more about what it is you would like to see happen going forward.
NRS is here to listen and here to help.
If you are interested in speaking more about your situation and exploring some options contact NRS at 1-800-Runaway (786-2929) or www.1800Runaway.org

You did a wonderful job reaching out tonight. Good for you.

    Take Care,
    NRS
