Hello! Thank you so much for reaching out.

You mentioned that your dad is filing for custody today, and it’s making you nervous. It sounds like you’re going through a difficult time right now, and we want you to know that you’re not alone. With that being said, it sounds like your dad cares about you, and wants you to be with him right now for this moment. Your feelings are validating, and if you need someone to talk to them about it, you can text the word NAMI to 741741. The National Alliance on Mental Illness provided you with a counselor to text what you’re feeling s and going through.

We hope these options and resources have been of some help. If you need additional sources, or want us to call somewhere on your behalf, you can reach out to us anytime at 1800) 786-2929. Best of luck!

    Hi there,

The easiest way to leave home is with your mom's permission. We understand that might be challenging, however, maybe there’s another family member, relative, or a family friend who could help to communicate how you’re feeling to your mom. The second way is through Child Protective Services if safety is a concern or neglect, which what you are experiencing might be considered neglect if your mom is unable to provide for you. Lastly, you can also look into emancipation options. In most states you need to be at least 16 to be considered and demonstrate that you can support yourself financially and independently. Emancipation often can be a lengthy process and may even cost some money for court fees. We would be happy to look into legal resources if that’s something you are considering.

Please reach out soon so that we may offer support and resources to you. Our number is 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929).

    Be safe,

    NRS

Want to live with dad but mom said no

Hey so I'm 13 and I've lived with my mom for about 2 years now with my 2 brothers and a roommate that moves with us Everytime and we move around a lot and my dad has a nice house and a actual financially good life and my mom doesn't even have enough beds for us. When I told her I wanted to move in with my dad she told me my opinion doesn't matter and I really don't want to have to go to court again I want it to just be simple. I still care about my mom a lot but I think I deserve the right to live with my dad happier
