Hi there,
Thank you for reaching out to us at the National Runaway Safeline. We are not legal experts, but we can tell you that because you are a minor, if you leave home and your parents file a runaway report, you could be returned home. There could also be legal consequences for whomever you stay with for what is called harboring a runaway. If you want a liner to help you walk through other options like us mediating a conference call between you and your parents, thinking through possible adults that you could turn to or could advocate for you, or things like emancipation and legal aid numbers, don't hesitate to give us a call at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). As a minor, it is likely that you would be returned home in any situation unless your parents didn't file that run away report.
Good luck,
NRS

Done With My Parents
I’m 16 and I live in Washington. Lately my parents and I have been getting into fights and there trust with me has really gone down. I know I have a great life and I’m definitely not as restricted as I could be, but I’m also a very independent person by nature and I can’t handle the restrictions my parents have been putting on me. Any advice on runny away. I have a few friends that have told me I can stay with them and I know a couple cabins I could stay at out of state. If I run out of state will that have any legal consequences? Is it likely that my friends parents will get in trouble if I stay with them? I know my parents wouldn’t press chargesTags: None
