I'm 16 years old and my boyfriend is 19, my parents does likes him and all that but the point is that I m not in a good relationship with my parents.. because I did some mistakes before that I should, i know I did wrong, I understand and I changed my self for a year know, i m learning, i m doing everything right, I'm learning in school, and I m actually a good girl.. I feel bad for what I ve done but I changed my self into good but their still not proud of me and that.. I m feeling in plus in this family.. can t stay like this anymore.. that hurts me.. and now I'm saying what do I actually I want to know.. I want to leave, I want to run away.. I want to move to my boyfriends house.. because he s next to me always take care of me and support me.. but I don t want nothing bad to happen to him.. because he doesn t deserve that.. if my mom and dad goes to the police and says that I run away can they do anything to him?..

    Hi,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to us tonight. It sounds like there's some tension in your family between you and your parents because of past mistakes. We understand how difficult this must be, as it sounds like you feel misunderstood and even isolated. Everyone makes mistakes though, and it seems like you have really been working hard to make sure you change from the better after what happened. It is disappointing if your parents cannot acknowledge that! It sounds like your boyfriend really cares about you though, which is awesome. We are sure that it helps to have someone on your side who is so supportive of you.

We can definitely tell you some information on runaway laws. We aren't legal experts by any means, but for the most part in most states the age of majority is 18 years old. This means that if you leave home before that age your parents could file a runaway report for you. For the most part running away is not illegal and you won't get into any legal trouble for it, but the police would be looking for you and would have to take you back home if they found you. There is a chance that your boyfriend could get into trouble because you are 16 and he is 19. Your parents could also press charges against him for what's calling "harboring a runaway". This means that if they wanted, they could take him to court for taking you in while knowing you're a runaway.

If you want to talk more about what you're going through please feel free to reach out to us again. We are opened 24/7 so someone will always be here to answer and help in the best way that we can. Our number is 1-800-RUNAWAY. We wish you the best of luck with everything!
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
