  • daughter left to be with boyfriend

My 15 year old daughter boarded a bus, with a ticket bought by her "boyfriend" who is 26, and was headed to NJ. We were lucky and received a heads up call from a friend of my daughter's mom that this was going on. My husband was able to meet the bus at its first stop about 40 miles away and bring her home. But now what? We've taken away her cell phone and computer so she cannot communicate with him, but what if she tries this again? Is this a felony for him to purchase a ticket for a minor?

Hi, thanks for contacting us. Sorry to hear about the problems with your daughter. We are happy to hear that you got her home okay. You are correct in still being concerned about the situation. It may be possible that it is illegal to purchase a ticket for a minor, (especially if it crosses state line). Your local police should be able to tell you that. Have you thought about having your daughter see a counselor? What does she say when you talk to her about the situation? How long has she been seeing this guy? Has she ever been in a similiar relationship before?
This must be a very difficult and scary time for you. If you would like to talk further about what options are available, feel free to call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY.

    Good luck,
