  • adoption and runaways

My teen has returned and I am trying to reinforce some (minor) consequences and I also have to e aware of not being too strict as she was adopted as a ay and has a sensitivity to anything that seems like rejection. I would love to hear from others: a) what did you do when they returned? b) anyone out there dealing with an adopted teen and those issues? Thank you.

    RE: adoption and runaways

    Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline for help. It sounds like you put a lot of thought into your decisions as a parent. If you need someone to talk to, keep in mind that you can call us 24/7. We are here to listen and support you in any way that we can. Another resource that you might find helpful is Team H.O.P.E. (Help Offering Parents Empowerment), a national group where you can talk to other parents who have had missing children. Have you thought about talking to your daughter to try to understand any underlying issues that might have made her want to run away? This might give you some insight into how you should respond to the issue.
We are looking forward to hearing from you soon, and wish you the best of luck.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
