  • my 16 yrs old dayghter run away from home

    Hi:

I just need some advice on how to treat this situation, my daughter runaway I don't know where or with who, the reason I don't understand her actions is because she was always very lovable, patience, she always wnted to stay home with me... if she ask me to go out with friend 75% of the time she would, she had her own bedroom her own stuff you know everything a teenager want, I'm a stay at home mom so she was always under my supervision. I understand when a child "feels" abuse, but in her case she was not .. her friend are telling me she might be with this 19 yrs old boy "man" in San Antonio Texas... I have a casa open for her where about. She is my oldest child and I'm dying with pain I have in my chest..

Re: my 16 yr old daughter run away from home

Thank you so much for reaching out and telling us a bit about what is going on. You mentioned that your daughter has recently run away and it sounds like it has been such a hard time not knowing where she is at. You also mentioned that this is very out of the ordinary for her and her behavior has always been good. It sounds like you think there is a possibility that she may be with another boy in San Antonio and that may be the main reason for her taking off. Do you have any idea who this individual may be? Do you know if she was hanging out with or talking with anyone new? We are sorry to hear that this is happening but glad that you reached out to us through our bulletin boards. It sounds like right now the main concern is finding out where she is at and making sure that she gets home safe. Do you know if she has been in touch with anyone during this time?
We are certainly glad that you contacted us and there are some options and resources that may be helpful to check into. Making a police report with your local police can be a good first option. Then they are aware that she is out of the house without permission and can make sure to file that report in a national database. There are a few other resources that work specifically with runaway/missing youth that may be helpful.

NCMEC (National Center for missing and exploited children): 1-800-843-5678

    Operation Lookout: 1-800-782-SEEK (7335)
    Website: www.operationlookout.org
    Available: 9am-5pm (PST)
*24 hour helpline dispatch for emergencies and sightings.
*Missing children registry and online pre-registration form
    *Active caseworker and search assistance
*Helps design and distribute posters and photos nationwide
    *Coordination with law enforcement

    Child Find of America: 1-800-426-5678

    Website: www.childfindofamerica.org
    *Missing Children Registry

Sometimes it can also be helpful to check and see if a youth is on any social networking sites (such as facebook), does she have a cell phone on her currently, or checking in with the school, friends, or family to see if they have heard anything that may help lead to where she is. While we don’t specifically take reports here we also have something called a message service where you would be able to leave a message for youth daughter and then she would be able to pick it up and have the option of leaving one back or even doing a conference call. It’s an option to try and get communication started between youth and family. Also if you would like to discuss your situation more in depth you can always give us a call at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). There is someone available 24 hours a day. We also have an online chat that is available from 4:30p to 11:30p CST. There is always someone available to provide support, discuss options, and even find other resources if needed. Please feel free to reach out to us anytime. All of our services are confidential and anonymous. Take care.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
