I am currently hospitalized for the second time at a very traumatizing eating disorder program. Beyond the point. I am leaving soon, only to have my parents put me in another clinic because even they know how horrible this place is. I am not gonna waste my time explaining how I am going to continue this bad eating pattern no matter what. It gives me motivation for life so yeah. So, whenever I transfer from hospital to clinic, I might get a brief interval to be at home for a couple of days. Soooo, my question is, where, when, and how can I run away whenever I get one second of peace when I finally arrive home? Please answer fast!

Hi thank you for reaching out. It sounds like you are currently in a program for an eating disorder that is not helpful and actually seems to be making things worse. It sounds like your parents recognize how bad it is and are wanting to send you to a different one, though you are not wanting to go because you are not wanting to change your habits. This seems like a very stressful situation. Is it possible to try and talk to your parents about how you are feeling and see if there are maybe other options that can help other than you being in a hospitalized setting? When planning on running away, it is important to make sure that you would have a safe place to stay and that you would be able to take care of yourself. If you would like to talk through some options or other potential ways to help, please either call our hotline 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or chat us online at 1800runaway.org. We hope to hear from you soon.
Be safe,
NRS

Thank you for writing back. I have actually talked to my parents multiple times about this place, though I cannot bring up the chance of maybe running away because my mother has already threatened to call the police on me toward the beginning of the year. Other than that, I have talked to them about this place, asking them to take me out, and they understand how horrible and toxic it is. The only problem is that it seems they cannot take me out because here I am not eating anything, I only take boost supplements, because of how horribly depressed this place has made me feel so I can not eat. I have told them multiple times that once I go home, and have the brief interval between hospital and clinic, I will eat more because I will be happy to be with my family. I do not know how to get out of here and every day the staff insults me, manipulates me, and treats me like an animal, and I honestly feel more and more scared every day. I need your help with two things: How can I get out of this hospital (either a safe way where my parents can take me out, or a way I can successfully escape)? And, how can I successfully run away, what state is the safest place I can go to, and how can I survive?Last edited by ccsmod2; 09-13-2023, 01:50 PM.

Hi thanks for reaching out again. That sounds like a very overwhelming situation and extra stressful that mom had already threatened to call the police on you, that does not help in any way. It seems like even your parents recognize that it would be better for you to be out of this facility because of how toxic it is. The hard part is they are less likely to discharge you unless they see improvements in your eating habits. You parents can try to get these set up with another place and see if they would allow a transfer of sorts so you are at least somewhere that is more helpful. You have mentioned that you don’t really want to be in another hospital setting and are more considering running away, which we can absolutely talk more about the logistics of. To do this, it would be best if we could have more of a conversation if you either want to call our hotline 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or chat us online at 1800runaway.org. We hope to hear from you soon.
Be safe,
NRS

Thank you again for responding. This will probably be my last message. Although I would love to talk on the phone, at the hospital I am only (at certain times) allowed to call my mother or father, and I am watching 24 hours, 7 days a week, for each week that I stay here, which right now would be my second. All I really need is for you to tell me how I can run away safely and what states would be most safe for a female who is a minor to run away to. If you are not allowed to talk about this to me, please just tell me, otherwise, I am wasting a lot of precious time. Thank you for all your help so far, but if you want to present me with something really valuable, then give me tips for running away from home, successfully.

We're sorry if it's frustrating, but we generally do not work by giving out tips without having a deeper conversation with you about your situation. We operate non-directively, meaning we want to help you identify the solutions that are right for you, rather than us prescribing something that might not fit your needs. We're happy to talk about things more-- what ideas do you have right now for running away that would be safe? You can also text us at 1-800-786-2929 or text chat us from our website if you prefer a faster conversation.
