(If you feel you are in immediate danger for any reason, please call the police or go to your local emergency room.)
Hi there,
Thanks so much for reaching out. It sounds like you’re thinking about leaving home, and while we don’t know your reasons, we can guess that something isn’t right at home and we are so sorry to hear this is the case. You have our support as you try to make a plan going forward.
To answer your question: Since you’re 17 and in the state’s custody, if you leave and attempt to get a job it is more than likely your name will come up as a runaway during the hiring process and the job will have to report you to the state. This issue would go away as soon as you turn 18 since in most states you will be an adult.
If you do still choose to leave, we ask that you reach out to us via online chat or by calling 1-800-RUNAWAY (1-800-786-2929) to get personalized and confidential help and to make a plan that will keep you safe and maximize your success.
Thanks again for reaching out, good luck!
