    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us here at National Runaway Safeline (NRS). We appreciate you reaching out on behalf of your sibling and for seeking support and assistance during this time. We would like to kindly inform you that we are unfortunately not experts on the law, however, in general law knowledge, we know that a person's legal guardian is the only person who is legally allowed to have a youth in their household in that way. We recognize that sometimes situations may vary based on how the situation is handled by law enforcement. We encourage you to reach out to legal aid in your area or the non-emergency police dispatch line for more precise information regarding your concern. We would be more than happy to find the correct phone numbers that you may call, and if you feel that our assistance may help, we welcome you to reach out to us through our phone line at 1-800-RUNAWAY or contact us via chat, which can be found on our website at www.1800runaway.org

Thanks again and we look forward to the opportunity to talk further with you.

    Best wishes,
    NRS

    Harboring runaway after suspected abuse

I am an adult but my younger sibling (who is a minor) lives with their mom (we share a dad but have different mothers) in another city (same state, WA). My sibling has expressed strong desire to run away due to the hostile home environment. I strongly suspect abuse and my sibling's friends have reached out to me saying they've seen abuse. Can I or our father, who has partial custody, take my sibling from that environment without their mom's permission?
