  • May I leave my house at 18 but still in my senior year of high school?

Hello, I am a 17 year old girl in California. I am thinking of leaving/running away from my house once I turn 18 this December of 2021. I will still be in my first semester of senior year of high school. May I still leave my house at 18 years old as a high school student? Also, can my mom force me to come back if she calls the cops on me , as a run away ?

    Hello there,
Thanks for reaching out to NRS and sharing a little bit about what is going on. In the state of California you are legally considered an adult at 18 years old. This means that you can live where ever you please and leave home without legal guardian permission. We are not legal experts, but from what we understand since you are a legal adult your legal guardian cannot have the police bring you back home. If you would like to talk about things more in detail we can by phone or our live chat as we can only respond to forum posts twice. You can reach us at 1800-RUNAWAY or chat with us at www.1800RUNAWAY.org.
Hope to hear from you soon!
