  • Do I have a chance at this?

There is a non-chain motel in my town that often breaks laws and regulations for money. I am considering running away, and this is almost the only place to go in my town. It is hidden from plain sight, and it is on a no-one saw no-one basis. Does anyone think a greedy **edited for language** cares who rents rooms if they have money? He rents to other low-lifes. I may also try to talk him into giving me a job, in exchange to sleep in a bed. I'm not talking about a union job, but a job where he pays you like someone would pay a babysitter. I'm not considering prostitution, just desk work, cleaning, and the other things that a regular assistant would do?

We’re glad you were able to share with us your situation. It sounds like you have thought about where you would go if you leave and how you would support yourself. We have also provided a link from our website with some additional questions that are commonly thought about before leaving. http://www.1800runaway.org/youth_teens/nrs_help.html

We are not here to tell you to run away or not, but we would be happy to discuss options with you. From what you say it doesn’t sound like you feel your area offers you very many options. Have you considered a family member/friend or trying to see if a larger town nearby has a youth shelter? Running away itself isn’t usually considered a crime. However, harboring a runaway normally has consequences and there may be additional legal repercussions for places that employ minors under the table.

If you need additional help, you are welcome to call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY. If you would like more detailed legal answers, we would be happy to look up legal aid for you. Best of luck.
