  • How to escape an abusive house

I’m 16 and my boyfriend is turning 16, he is physically and mentally abused by his mom and stepdad and his dad isn’t someone he would want to stay with for the same reasons. I’ve offered him many times with my parents consent for him to stay here but we are worried because his parents will call police and not allow him to talk to me anymore as they keep him pretty isolated. Is there any way he can leave his house to stay in a Safer and healthier home without having to return to his abusive household?

    Hello There,
Thank you for reaching out to The National Runaway Safeline, we are here to help and here to listen. It s great that you are reaching out to us on your boyfriend’s behalf it shows that you are supportive and that you care.

He does not deserve to be abused in any type of way and we are sorry that he is dealing with that. He does have a right to make a report and there are a few ways he can go about doing that. One option to consider would be calling Child Help at 1800-422-4453, and they would be able to help with filing a report. Another option would be calling or chatting with us and we can help with making a report. He can also speak to a school counselor and they would be able to help with making a report.

We are not legal experts but if is a possibility if he left without permission he can still be brought back home. One option could be emancipation, where he can call the local court house to find out more information. Also if he were found he can tell the police about the abuse and they may get child protective services involved.

We hope that this information will be helpful to you in this situation. If you or your boyfriend have any questions or would like to explore more options, please give us a call. We are here 24/7 to listen and to provide support. We wish you the best of luck!
