REply: 17 thinking about running away until January when I turn 18

    Hello,
Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Safeline.

We are not legal experts and cannot comment on what the prospects of your probation status would be if you ran away before completion.
You might consider reading any paperwork you might have or referring this information to a legal aid resource in your area.

To get information for legal aid services call 1-800-Runaway (786-2929).
We understand that you feel frustrated by your situation you did a good job reaching out for information. Good for you.

    Take care,
    NRS

17 thinking about running away until January when I turn 18

Hi, I have been on Juvenile Probation since the age 13. I am now 17 and I am thinking about running away until I am 18 (which is only 2 months away) because on my 18th birthday is the day I'd be getting of probation. The only reason I want to run away is because these people literally sabotage my life and I am beyong TIRED of it. Can they extend my probation (supervision) beyond the age of 18 without me catching a criminal charge? People have told me they can't, some have told me they could. But even my supervision worker told me that its not possible. So I don't know where I stand. I just want to be happy again, and my family agrees that this is the best option for me right now... But if they can extend it I don't want to make my legal situation any worse than it already is.
