  • 17, pregnant, and i want to run away.

I'm currently 8 months pregnant and I want to run away. I got taken away from my mom and I live with my granny who is just as bad. My granny and I don't get along unless I act civil with her. Everyday when I wake up I have to hear her trash talking someone and it often makes me wonder "why is she so negative?" I recently found out she is miserable because she wants to die. Anyways, she recently started calling me a lot of names. Every time I do something she has to make little comments here and there. I recently stopped eating her food because she doesn't wash her hands and she gets mad when my boyfriend brings me food for just us. But she always buys her friend and her food and then she tells me "what are you going to eat?" When there's no food in the kitchen, only expired food. My therapist told me I should give her the benifit of the doubt but I can't take it anymore. Today she was talking about me and saying all these lies to her friend and I wanted to confront her but I chose not to. I really want to run away because living with her is making me depressed. I really don't want to bring my daughter into a situation when I know I could be better off somewhere else, even if it means I won't have as much freedom as I do now. When she calls me those names it takes me back to the time where my mom would verbally abuse me and it makes me feel worthless. I get that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I really can'take take it anymore. Please help me because I tried to tell my social worker before but she didn't take me serious. My granny puts on a front like she cares about me but her actions say otherwise. So what should I do? If I run away will they take my child away? I live in California. Please help me!?

re: 17, pregnant, and i want to run away

    Hey there,

Thanks for contacting us. You mentioned that you and your granny don't get along at all, and you're concerned that if you leave your child would be taken away. That's understandable that you would be worried about how that would effect your child. We aren't legal experts here so we don't really know what would happen to your child if you decided to run away. You could probably ask your social worker what the possibility of that is. It would be your choice whether or not to run away. But you may want to consider the possible consequences of what that means. If you have any questions definitely call or chat with us and we can do our best to help. Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat which is open every day from 4:30p to 11:30p CST.

    Take care,
    NRS
