My 16 yo ran away from his fathers house almost a month ago. He doesn't seem to care, or want to do anything about it. I tried calling the woman he is staying with (his gfs mom), she wont return my calls, and is now threatening me with a restraining order. don't I have a legal right to be in contact with my kid? how can some stranger take my child and refuse me contact with him? She wont tell me her last name or address, so the cops laugh at me when I try to report her as concealing his whereabouts. I just want to know where my child is, and everyone acts like im being ridiculous.

You mention that you’re son ran away and you cannot get a hold of the people he’s currently living with. Something to think about is filing a runaway report. If you are the legal guardian of your son you can contact the local police and file it. Depending on your local police department they may handle it differently. Sometime they may go actively searching for the youth and return him home, or just assess the situation in general. If you don’t want to file a runaway report you can just ask for the police departments input on the situation because your son is still a minor. Another option may be contacting your son directly to get his input as well.
