'm a 15-year-old biological female (16 in April). I was planning on moving out once I turned 16- except I can't do it without help. I have two friends willing to let me live with them.... But they're males, and adults. But they're only a few years older than me. Anyways. I don't know if that is legal. Not to mention since I would still be under 18, if my mother has jurisdiction over that choice anyway? I guess what I'm asking is- is it legal for me to live with them, and is so, can I just up and go if I want- or do I have to be emancipated?

    Hello,
Thanks for contacting the National Runaway Safeline.

Legally your mother has legal say in where you live.
This means you probably would not be allowed to stay with anyone without her permission.
It’s possible they could face legal trouble by taking you in without parental consent.
In most states parental consent along with certain criteria would also be required to be considered in a court of law for emancipation.

We hope that speaks to your question.
