    Re: Running away to Califronia

    Hello,

Thank you for writing in to NRS! It sounds like you are in a really tough spot with your family. It’s very admirable that you want to continue school and start fresh.

It seems like you’re having problems both with your parents and also where you live. One thing might be to talk to your parents about them growing pot and how you don’t like it. It might be worth considering telling them how you feel before you leave.

It sounds like you’ve decided you want to try and make it down to California and have done some research to back that up. It might be important to think about where you’re going to stay along the way, as well as what you’ll do in emergency situations (both on the way and once you arrive). If you’re ever in need of somewhere to stay, you can visit www.nationalsafeplace.org. There you’ll be able to find locations where you can go and get help/referrals for shelters.

It might be good to make a budget to see how long your money will last you, as well as thinking about potential ways to make some money.

If you’re set on leaving and have the money, maybe you could purchasing a plane/bus ticket. That might be a safer option.

It’s great that you have planned out what you have. If you ever want to talk through the plan or your situation at home, please give us a call at 1-800-786-2929.

    Best of luck!
