Non-Parent Custody in Ohio?

My mom (she has the only custody) gives consent of me living out my last year of highschool with someone of my church. We couldn't open enroll, Ohio doesn't allow emancipation. What can I do if she gives consent of me being here?

You mentioned your mom gives you consent to live with someone from your church for your last year of high school; however, it sounds like you’re having trouble enrolling. Without a guardianship transfer, your mom may need to enroll you as your legal guardian unfortunately. Some youth have their parents/guardians notarize a letter of permission to be safe, but getting permission is often half the battle. You’ve gotten your mom’s permission and it sounds like you have a plan which is great.

It sounds like you’ve done your research and have found Ohio doesn’t offer emancipation. Another possible option for this person from church might be speaking to a lawyer or legal aid about guardianship transfer (should your mom agree) or power of attorney (if that would allow you to enroll in school.) There is also the McKinney-Vento Homeless Children and Youth program which can sometimes extend to unaccompanied youth (minors who are not with their guardian.)
