    Re: Military

Hi. Thank you for contacting the National Runaway Switchboard. Your friend is lucky to have you looking out for her.

Can you give us a bit more information about the situation? It sounds like you are really concerned that she is going to get into trouble for doing illegal activity. Right? What sort of trouble do you think she is in? What sorts of things do you think she has been doing?

It sounds like you have already brought up your concerns to your friend, but that she isn’t listening to you. What message do you wish that she could hear? Why do you think she doesn’t really care about what is going to happen to her?

We definitely want to help you out in this situation. What sort of help are you looking for?

We are here 24/7 at 1-800-RUNAWAY to talk with you further about the situation and help you come up with a plan of action.

    Best of luck,
    -NRS

      Re: Military

i know for a fact that she has been doing drugs and drinking she is only 18. she recently got kicked out of school and i want her to get some help but i dont know who to go to or who to talk to or anything. i dont want some of my friends getting mad because they will think that all i am is a snitch but i want her to have a good life. I am part of a family that is involved kind of with the military but i really dont know that much about it besides the fact that she will get into a lot of trouble.

        Re: Military

Hi. Thanks for getting back to us and sharing more about the situation. It definitely seems as though you are in a tough situation right now. On the one hand, you are worried that your friend might need some help because of her drinking and drug use. But, on the other hand, it sounds like she has been resistant to your help and you don’t want to be judged as a snitch. What sort of drugs is she using and how often? How often is she drinking?

From what you wrote, it sounds like you really want the best for her. In your mind, what do you think is best for her? What do you think she believes is best for her? You said that you would like to get her help. What sort of help would you like to see her get? Do you think she would talk to a counselor or that she would benefit from sort of addiction counseling? If she is not interested in those options, do you think she would call us?

Both of you are more than welcome to give us a call at 1-800-RUNAWAY to talk more about this situation. We can also find resources for you in your local community that might be able to help.

        Best of luck,
        NRS

          Re: Military

she smokes marijuana on a regular basis and she drinks almost on a regular basis. i just think that she needs structure in her life. i guess she says she has a warrant out for her arrest but she wont turn herself in. is there any way that i could get ahold of someone in the military and anonymously let them know whats going on with her and try to get her out of here or something

            Re: Military

Thank you for sharing more information about your predicament. We can definitely understand why you are worried about your friend. Smoking and drinking on a regular basis probably isn’t very healthy and, as you said, she could face serious consequences for using and/or being in possession of controlled substances.

It sounds like, from what you have told us, that you really want her to get help. But, because she has not been receptive to your attempts to talk to her about what is going on you are thinking about speaking to people who have the power to force her to get help. Does this sound right?

Unfortunately, we don’t know of any anonymous military line that you could call. You might be able to contact someone at a military base or something like that. What are you planning on telling them? What do you hope to happen from this?

Are there any options you can think of to get her help? Do you think talking to her again might help? What could you say to better communicate with her and help her be receptive to your message?

You sound like a very caring and brave friend and we wish you good luck in your endeavor,

                    Re: Military

Unfortunately, we don’t know of any anonymous tip lines that exist for situations like this. Though it certainly sounds like something that would be helpful! Perhaps you might be able to find a specific site to contact that works with whatever branch of the military your friend is in AND in the area she lives in. Or, you could try calling the Army Family Assistance Hotline at 1-800-833-6622. Since this hotline is more closely affiliated with the armed forces, it might be a good resource for you.

                    Best of luck,
