Hello.
Thank you for reaching out to us. It’s great that you have a relationship you feel is strong enough to take to the next step by living together. And it’s great that you both have jobs and are making a plan to continue to work, go to school and take these big steps towards independence.
We’re not legal experts, but you’re still considered a minor in the state of Colorado until you turn 18. That means that even if you did move out, your parents are still legally responsible for you, even if you have their permission to move out and live somewhere else.
If you move out of your home without the permission of a parent/guardian, and your parent or guardian report you as a runaway, and you are found in the presence of your boyfriend, he could be charged with harboring a runaway as he is considered an adult in the state of Colorado.
Again, we’re not legal experts, but what you’re considering is a big step that could have consequences if done hastily. We encourage you to give us a call at 1800RUNAWAY or chat with us at 1800runaway.org. We are completely confidential and can help you further discuss your situation and options—some you may not have considered yet.
We’re here to listen and here to help 24/7.
And we wish you the best!
