Me and two other people are looking to find a place to move to at 16 because of what looks to be the ability to move out at 16 with parental consent.. Our question is of where could we go? We are all, for one reason or another, distressed with current living arrangements to the point the current circumstances are.. less than tolerable, for long periods of time. Is there anywhere, preferably in the south lyon area, likely an apartment or something that would accept 16 year old tenants?

Hi there, thanks for posting for you and your friends tonight. Sounds like things are rough at home for a variety of reasons and you all are looking for some options.
We are not legal experts, but generally, leaving home before 18 in MI, you are considered a runaway and parents can file you as a runaway with police. Typically, at 16, if the police find you, they would return you home.
You did mention getting parental consent, though. If you do have permission, you can move out legally if your guardians allow it. In terms of where to stay, though, that is tricky. Usually landlords will not rent an apartment to someone under 18. You also need credit, money for first month's rent and a security deposit, etc.
Some alternatives may be staying with a friend or family member who is willing or looking into shelters or youth programs.
We have resources for this so if you are interested, call or chat anytime!
