RE: Almost 18 and need to move out
Hey There,
Thanks for reaching out to the National Runaway Safeline.
We’re really sorry to hear about what is happening at home. We want you to know that no one deserves to suffer abuse and it is NOT your fault.
It sounds like you are really close to being 18. We’re not legal experts, but generally speaking it is acceptable to leave your home when you turn 18. Since you’re so close, it is likely the police might not be able to return you home if you left and your parents filed you as a runaway. You could call your local police non-emergency phone number to see if there is anything that can happen to your boyfriend’s parents, just to be sure. But once you are 18, it is not likely that this would occur.
As far as your horse goes, we don’t have any recommendations to give regarding what you could do. It sounds like you’d need some specialized equipment to care for the animal and that isn’t likely to be available just anywhere. Are you willing to leave your home if it meant you’d have to part ways with your horse? It sounds like a difficult choice to make.
If you’d like to call in here, we could talk about your situation in more detail or you could just vent about everything you’ve been experiencing. We’re 24/7 and confidential. We can be reached here at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929).
Stay Strong,
NRSPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
