    Hello,
Thank you for writing to us here at the National Runaway Safeline.

We understand it takes great courage to reach out, and we appreciate you sharing a little bit about what’s going on.
You mentioned some things that raise concern for your safety and well-being. If any harm or abuse is happening at home, you have the right to report it.
If you feel like this is an option you want to explore, you may find this number and website helpful: 1-800-422-4453 https://www.childhelp.org/child-abuse/. We can also help you to file a report if that’s the route you are considering.

You don't deserve to be hurt in any way. It's not your fault that this is happening.

It sounds like as of right now you’re feeling like leaving is one of your only options. If you would like to get information about your school situation then you might consider contacting the school or the school district in the city you are thinking about going to. Running away as you must know is a big step and being safe is important. There may be emergency shelters for you to consider instead of planning to sleep on the streets.

We want you to know that we are here as support to help you through this challenging time. If you would like to talk more in detail and explore options, please contact us.
We can best help by phone or chat as NRS is unable to respond more than twice by email or bulletin for assistance.

Our contact information is 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929); www.1800runaway.org (click on the chat button).
If you are at risk of any danger or feeling unsafe, we encourage you to reach out to 9-1-1 or seek emergency assistance immediately.
For depression or suicidal thoughts contact the National Suicide and Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-8255

It took a lot of courage for you to reach out to NRS. Good job.
NRS is here to listen and here to help.

    Take care,
    NRS

    14 year old

Hi, I am 14 years old and will be 15 in a month. My current home situation isn’t physically abusive, but I fear it might become that way. My parents are emotionally abusive and manipulative to the farthest extent. I have given it so much thought, but I think running away is the best option because otherwise I would just kill myself. I want to run take the train from my city to New York City and register for school using the McKinney vento act. Once I do so, I can sleep on the streets or something since the school year is almost over. However, I wouldn’t be able to bring my phone because I don’t want to be tracked. If I do this within the next couple of weeks, will I be able to finish my freshman year there? Or would I have to repeat it. I also sometimes use drugs to relieve my stress, which has become an issue for me. Any advice in general?
