  • Please Help Me.

I'm 15 years old, and I've been living with depression and anxiety. I have been officially diagnosed. The reason I developed depression? My parents. There are so many horrible things that they have put me through. I don't feel safe. I feel crazy and insane. They have physically abused me. But it's more emotionally abusive. They put me down time and time again. It would take more than 45 minutes to list everything that they have done. I don't have time. My dad is downstairs and I'm afraid he will come upstairs soon... Yes, I'm afraid of my parents. Nobody should feel that right? My mom is more emotionally abusive. She drinks every night. She picks fights. My dad used to drink. He got "better" I guess. except he is so violent. He got mad today because I don't want to go to school anymore. At least the school i go to. He shook me. My right arm still aches. Also, he kept doing that... which furthermore made my nose start to bleed. Then he turns around and said he barely touched me. I'm not crazy. I just want to get out of here. It's not good for my mental health. I'm at the point of being suicidal. My depression has been here for almost 3 years+ I self harmed during 7th grade mostly. They still don't believe that. They think I'm faking. Please. they don't see what they're doing to me. They say i'm ruining their lives. But I broke 1 year ago. I sobbed until my heart fell apart and I had shivers down my spine. When I hear certain doors open quickly my heart starts acting up.That incident was just today. But they've done more insane things. I feel myself getting crazier every day. I'm unstable.

    Re: Please Help Me.

    Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out to us at NRS. I’m really sorry that you are going through such a difficult situation. You’re right, no one should have to be made to feel afraid in their own home. Also, no one has the right to physically harm you.
Physical and emotional abuse can be really scary and really hard to cope with. It’s great that you are taking steps to protect your safety and to help ensure your mental health doesn’t suffer.
What steps have you taken to try to make your situation better? Maybe there is another family member that you could talk to Sometimes a grandparent or aunt or uncle can be really helpful in this situation. Have you told anyone what is going on in your house? It can be very helpful to talk.
It’s possible that your school also has some resources. Maybe you could talk to the guidance counselor or a favorite teacher. Those people are what are called “mandated reporters”. If you tell them that you are physically abused at home, they have to report it to the authorities. Give some thought to that possibility and what would that change in your life.
You say that you want to get out of there. Where would you go? Consider how you could find somewhere to live. Think about how you would take care of yourself.
If you are feeling suicidal at any point, you can always call the National Suicide Hotline. They can help you at 1800-273-TALK.
Also, we at NRS are here to listen 24/7. We’d be happy to talk to you about what options you’re considering and talk about ways to make you feel safe. Please feel free to give us a call any time at 1800Runaway.
    Take care,
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
