My parents and I have been arguing nonstop for months now. I've been arrested, hospitalized, and depressed for months and they still won't let up. I want to leave and they can't stand having me in the house, but im 17 and i turn 18 in January. I don't know wither emaciation is the way to go or if that'll take to long and it won't be worth it or to just run away. plz help

RE: 17 and don't wanna live at home no more

Thanks for reaching out to us for help. It sounds like you are in a really tough situation. It sounds like you are very depressed and your situation at home has gotten really bad, and like you have gone through so much in the past couple of months. We are sorry to hear that you and your parents fight so much and that they call the cops on you. That sounds very difficult, and it is understandable that you are considering emancipation. If you are thinking about suicide or you might hurt yourself, the National Suicide Lifeline could be a great resource for you. Check out or call them at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

You mentioned that your parents don’t want you at home any more. One option could be to see if you can get their permission to move out. It looks like in Nevada, a youth must be at least 16 and be living apart from their parents and supporting themselves in order to petition for emancipation. We are not legal experts, so if you are hoping to become emancipated your first step could be to contact a lawyer. We can help you find legal aid resources in your area. If you are thinking about running away, we can help you figure out your options and make a plan to deal with your situation. If you have any more questions or you need help to figure out your next steps, we are here to listen and support you in any way that we can. It was smart for you to reach out to us, and it takes a lot of strength to ask for help. We are looking forward to hearing from you soon, and wish you the best of luck.
