im 17 and a senior in high school i graduate in may a month after i turn 18 i want to move out because of how my siblings treat me, i live in Alabama and ive done some research and some sites are saying that you can move out at 18 but some are saying that you cant until your 19. i was wondering if my parents could actually stop me from moving out even if i have a place to stay and a full time job and still make good grades in school.

Hi there, thank you for reaching out. It sounds like you are wanting to move out when you turn 18 because of how your siblings are treating you. So unfortunately the age of majority in Alabama is 19, so yes your parents could stop you from moving out at that time. The best way to go about moving out is to get their permission because then it is legal. Also if the issue relates to how your siblings are treating you, it could be helpful to talk with your parents about this to see if they can help. If you would like to discuss this further, please call our hotline 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or chat us online at We hope to hear from you soon.
