  • Escaping reality

I have had a lot of troubles going on at home. Neglect, Abuse and Juvenile problems. I have recently been removed from Foster Care. I was put into Foster Care for 4 years. 2 years each time. I have recently been in a relationship with a guy that is 20 years old. Now he lives 6 hours away from me, and I do not turn until March. And in 2017 I will than be 17. What is the earliest I'd be able to leave my house without needing permission from my parents, and without being 18. But also without being put back into Foster Care? Any advice would help.. I have been going through a lot. With depression, and self harming again... and My boyfriend is my only support..

    Re: Escaping reality

    Hello there,

We’re glad you found us on online and decided to post on our forum. It certainly sounds like you have been through a lot in your life and we’re sorry you’ve had to deal with neglect, abuse, and other juvenile problems. It sounds like you’re 15 about to turn 16 later this month since you mentioned in 2017 you’ll be 17. Some states do offer emancipation if that’s a route you’d like to try. The process typically involves filing a petition with your local court system, going before a judge with yourparents and showing your plan for independence. Judges are normally going to look at 1. your ability to support yourself through a legal source of income, 2. your continued school attendance or completion of a GED, 3. living separate/apart from your parents, 4. ability to handle personal as well as financial affairs.

If emancipation is something you’re interested in and you’re willing to provide your state we can check and see if there is a formal process where you live and provide other basic information. We’re also here if you want to talk more about your depression and self-harm issues. You might also find To Write Love on Her Arms helpful too. https://twloha.com/ Best of luck to you!
