okayokay, so i have one main question, concerning emancipation. From what i've learned the emancipation laws in Alabama make the legal emancipated age 18, which is four years away from my age. Do you guys know what the emancipation laws are in Virginia? If i move in with family in Virginia, then can i be emancipated in Virginia as opposed to Alabama? Or would i still be an alabama resident and i would not be allowed to be emancipated? im sorry if this question is confusing, but thank you

Re: question
Hey there,
Thank you for being able to reach out to us here at the National Runaway Safeline, it sounds like you are exploring your options and seeing what is best for you at this point. Emancipation is a big process, and it is great to hear that you are seeing what steps to take before going through with this process.
We want to start off by letting you know that we are not legal experts here, meaning that we are only able to speak in general terms. In most states, if emancipation could be done, a youth would need to be at least 16 years of age and would need to be financially stable. The best way to find out what could happen in either state is by reaching out to a legal aid in that state. Below, we have provided you with a legal aid where you can ask more specific questions for the state of Virginia:
LAW CLINIC
Phone number: 804-289-8921

We hope that we were able to give you some more general information and hope we were able to clear up some questions. If you have any further questions or feel like you need to talk about any situation, please feel free to give us a call and we would be more than willing to help.
We wish you the best of luck!
