  • 15 year old runaway

im from New York and my dad is a drunk and pops pills and my mom is refusing to let me come live with her without a court order. I plan on running away I have a place to stay but I’m scared that the person is gonna get in trouble. I’m also pregnant and I’m scared that my parents are gonna find out and beat me. What will happen if they find me?

    Hello There,
Thank you for reaching out to The national Runaway Safeline, we are here to help and here to listen. Wow it sounds like you are going through a lot, we appreciate you sharing that with us. Having your dad be drunk and pop pills can be a difficult situation. If you feel neglected by this or feel unsafe you can call The Child Helpline at 1800-422-4453, and make a report. If at any moment you feel your life is in danger please call 911 ASAP. If you would like to know more about substance abuse or would like some resources dealing with that you can always call SAMHSA (substance abuse and mental health administration). They can be reached at 1877-726-4727. You also mentioned you are pregnant and you are afraid that your parents will beat you. If your parents beat you that would be considered as abuse and you can make a report with the number listed above. You may want to consider telling your doctor your concerns. If you do not have a doctor you can go to a Planned Parenthood in your city and they should be able to help. If you do runaway and stay with people they could potentially get in trouble for harboring a runaway. Usually harboring a runaway is a fine and it would have to be your parents that would press the charges. Also if the police found you they would most likely bring you home if they deemed it safe for you to go back home.
We hope this information will be helpful to you in your situation. If you have any other questions or would like to explore your options please give us a call. We are here 24/7 to listen and provide support. We wish you the best of luck, stay strong!
