Say hypothetically a minor ran away from his house and never got caught until he was 18, would he have to face any consequences?

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out to us. We are here to listen and help the best way we can.
You mentioned that you wanted to know if someone would face consequences retroactively if they runaway but never got caught. We aren’t legal experts, but we can give you some general information. Because running away is not illegal, it’s unlikely that the police would be able to retroactively charge someone for something that isn’t illegal. However, if crimes were committed by the runaway, the police may be able to charge him/her for those crimes.
Hope this helps! If you have any questions or want to discuss the situation in more detail, please reach out to us by calling 1-800-RUNAWAY or on our chatline at www.1800RUNAWAY.org.
