Hi, I've been going through a lot with my parents and finally I think that it has all just climaxed. I'm a sixteen year old girl. I have had permission to go where I have been going and staying with my friends that I have been staying with here lately. But tonight I returned home from a movie that ran later than expected and they tried to tell me they had called the cops on me, I live in North Carolina by the way. I am not trying to runaway, I returned home at 9:30, I was supposed to be home at 9:10ish. They told me that if I got my boyfriend to pick me up tomorrow and they hadn't given permission that they could call the cops on me and get them to come get me. I have absolutely no intentions of taking my car (that my dad has the title to), run away, or by any means not return home. I have never runaway or anything delinquent can I really be hunted down by the cops.

Re: Can My Parents Call the Cops on Me
Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out to us here at the National Runaway Safeline (NRS). We are here to provide you support during this time and help you in the best possible way.
It seems like you are going through a really stressful time with your parents. It must be very frustrating to be told that the police are going to be called for returning home a little later than told. We are not legal experts here but we can provide you with some general information. To answer your question your parents can call the police if you leave home without permission, even if you do not take your car and have someone pick you up. If the police are called, there is a chance that they may actively look for you or if they know where you are then the police might go there and bring you back home.
We are really glad that you used us as a resource and that you reached out to us. We would really like to talk with you further about the situation to see how we can best help you. We are here 24/7 and can be reached any time at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929). We wish you the best and hope to hear from you soon!
NRSPlease remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
