    re: Running away on pins

    Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to us. We see that you are going through tough times at home. It is hard for you to continue to live at home because your mother’s boyfriend is constantly yelling at you and calling you names. You don’t deserve to be treated like that. It does seem like you have a good relationship with your mother.
Unfortunately, we are not knowledgeable about the PINS program in New York, but we imagine there will be a consequence if you run away. It is an option for you to ask your parole officer what your consequences would be. This way you will have the information and have a better idea for a decision.
Something else that may be helpful to you is to talk with your mother and to come with a decision together. If your mother can agree that living with your boyfriend is a better living arrangement and it is brought to your parole officer for approval it may be possible.
One last thing to think about is to a different person to live with that your mother may approve. Someone like a, family member or a close friend, so that you can be comfortable living there without your mother’s boyfriend constantly being mean to you.
If leaving is not an option for you, you may want to consider some informal things to make the situation a little better for yourself. Things to avoid your mother’s boyfriend may look like after school programs, sports teams, hobbies, etc.
If you would like to talk more about all these options or more options that you have in mind in greater detail you can call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or chat with us at 1800RUNAWAY.org. We are available to speak with you 24 hours a day. We hope things start getting better for you.
    Best wishes,
    NRS
