I'm 18 and I live int Texas. I will graduate this June from high school and I will be attending college next year. Can I run away legally? Would my parents be able to send police to get me? How does it work? and what steps does it take to run away?

Hi,
Thank you for your message. If you are 18 in the state of Texas, then you are legally considered an adult and can leave home with or without permission from your parents. The police cannot return you home. As for steps, it’s often a good idea to have a clear plan: where you’ll stay, how you’ll get there, how you’ll pay for basic necessities like food, housing, water, clothes, etc. You also mention that you’ll be attending college; have you considered or already decided how you will cover the tuition? If not, your guidance counselor or the financial aid office at the college you plan to attend are great resources for you. If you have any questions, need resources, or just need someone to help you think through your options, we are always here. Our number is 1-800-786-2929. Take care and god luck!
