Legal age of moving out while still in high school in the state of West Virginia.
Hi, i would like to ask you guys something. Would it be possible to move away from my parents home while still enrolled at a high school in the state of West Virginia at the age of 18? Any answers would be appreciated. Thank you
Thank you for reaching out to us at the National Runaway Safeline. It sounds like you are in a difficult situation, and we understand it takes courage to reach out for help.
In your post you shared that you are 18. While we are not legal experts, we can let you know that in most states (all 50 besides Alabama, Nebraska, and Mississippi) you are considered a legal adult. That means that you may be able to leave home without legal consequences. If you are still concerned, reach out to your local non-emergency line number and ask to speak to someone who knows runaway laws and ask how they might respond since you are still in highschool.
We are here for you and will support you in anyway that we can. Please feel free to call into us directly as we can talk further about your situation and find resources that are best for you in your area. Stay strong and you are not alone in this! Our hotline ( 1-800-RUNAWAY) and chat are open 24/7.
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
