  • My lgbt friend got kicked out

Me and my best friend used to go to the same school (In Nebraska) and back then her and her family situation wasn’t always the best, but she managed through. She didn’t get fed every night, and was neglected. I moved to California about a year and a half ago. Since then we still have had contact. Recently she has told me she was going to runaway, or tell her therapist that it’s bad for her to live there. Turns out, she came out to her family while I was gone and now they are been even more harsh on her. She gets fed less and grounded more. I want to help her. Is there any safe space for lgbt teens? How can she get help? What can I do to make sure she is safe?

    Hey there,

Thanks for reaching out to us and sharing you and your friend’s story. It seems like you care a lot about your friend and you’re a great support for her. You stated that your friend is not being fed and is neglected, if you’re comfortable, you can always file a report with Child Protective Services about this. You can also call into us at 1-800-RUNAWAY if you would like us to help you with the abuse report filing process.

If you would like, you can suggest that your friend call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY or chat us by clicking on the “CHAT” button on top of our homepage; we’d be more than happy to talk to her about what’s going on and the options that she has available to her. We can always help your friend locate resources that might be able to help her out as well. We’re open 24/7 and here to listen and support you and your friend in any way that we can. You can also recommend that your friend call the LGBT National Hotline at 1-888-4564 or go to their website at glbthotline.org.

    All the best,
    NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
