Hi there, thank you for reaching out to us here at the National Runaway Safeline! It sounds like you are in a frustrating situation and reaching out is a really good first step and does take a lot of strength. We are going to talk about a few things and if you want to talk further you can call us at 1-800-RUNAWAY or chat us at 1800runaway.org.
We are not experts on the specifics of foster care in that regard, but we can certainly offer as much help as we can as you sound like you are in a hard place right now and we do truly care about you. Looking into the hormone injections, if you are getting them through a health care provider through the state it may be that you should be able to gain your medication regardless of the foster home you are at, but if the services have to go through the foster parents that may be more difficult. Child Help (1-800-422-4453) with child protective services and may have some information on foster homes. They are 24/7 and confidential and they can take a child abuse report if you want, but as long as you do not share identifying factors like your name, address, ect they are confidential. We are also here 24/7 and we are confidential if you can reach out again we would be more than happy to look into more specific resources for you and talk further. The LGBTQ+ National Talkline (1-800-246-7743) can also offer some help in this situation as confidential one-on-one chat and phone support that can offer support and resources.
We are glad you reached out and we are always going to be here for you. It sounds like you have been trying your hardest in a really tough situation, but it takes a lot of bravery to talk about what is going on. You deserve to be accepted for who you are and we really hope to hear from you soon!

    Best, NRS

    Transgender foster children/ medications

I have been in the system since I was 10-ish, I am now 16 years old and identify as transgender. I have been on Hormone replacement therapy for a few months. With the foster homes in my state many turn me down due to my sexuality and identity. I'm tired of being held in places where I'm not accepted. My concern is can/how can I still receive my medications without being incriminated or being put in jeopardy where I have to go back to places that are detrimental to my overall wellbeing. I have a few other medications that I take but I have weekly injections and I have to be consistent about it. I refuse to go back and be ignored but if I have to get my medication illegally so be it. Are there resources I can use without mandatory reporting and keeping the government out as much as possible?
