Thank you for reaching out to The National Runaway Safeline, we are here to help and here to listen. We are not legal experts but in Tennessee the legal age to leave home without permission is 18. Because you are 17 your parents or legal guardian have the right to file a runaway report. Running away is not a criminal offense, it is a status offense. What that means is that if you were found the police would most likely bring you back home. In most cases we see, the police usually do not take runaway reports of people who are 17, but it varies depending on police department. We hope that this information was useful in your situation. We wish you the best of luck!
