  • Running away at 17 and work

If I were to runaway about 6 months before my 18th birthday would I be able to work? I have a housing situation set up in Georgia and know that I will be safe there. I'm not worried about my parents coming to look for me there or anything except work. The place I want to stay will require me to have some form of income. If I wanted to work as a runaway is this possible at all? And how would I go about getting a job?

    Hello,
Thank you for writing to us here at the National Runaway Safeline.

We understand it takes great courage to reach out, and we appreciate you sharing a little bit about what’s going on.
We want you to know that we are here as support to help you through this challenging time.
It sounds like you would like to get a job once you leave home and relocate to Georgia.
You might consider looking online about the labor laws in the state of Georgia for minors.
Some states require a work permit which requires a parent or guardians permission.
If you were to wait until turning 18 you would not need this.

Landing a job mean you would have to submit an application for employment along with a resume. If you would like to talk more about your situation and explore some options, we can best help by phone or chat as NRS is unable to respond more than twice by email or bulletin for assistance. If you would like to talk more in detail and share more about how we can help specifically, please call or chat soon.

Our contact information is 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929); www.1800runaway.org (click on the chat button).

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Take care,
    NRS
